Eve W.
Private tutor in Christchurch, New Zealand
Education
I have a BSc in mathematics and psychology, with first class honors in psychology, and an MSc in statistics, with first class honors. In 2015 I was awarded the prestigious Prince of Wales Scholarship to complete a Ph.D. in Biostatistics at Cambridge University, however, I ultimately decided to not take this offer up. I am familiar with most undergraduate mathematics and statistics (as well as a lot of postgraduate material), I began my university studies at Princeton University on a full scholarship, however for health reasons I transferred after a year and completed the rest of my studies at Auckland University. In high school, I represented NZ twice at the International Maths Olympiad. I also gained NCEA scholarships in Calculus and Statistics (as well as Physics, French, and Economics), and was awarded Dux of my school while still in year 12.
Experience
Recently, I've relocated to Christchurch and am available for in person and/or online tutoring. I've worked as a private tutor in Auckland for the past 12 years, helping 300+ students of all ages and abilities to improve in Maths and Statistics. Prior to that, I worked as a tutor at Auckland University, and several after-school agencies. I am thoroughly familiar with all exam systems offered in NZ (NCEA, Scholarship, Cambridge, IB), as well as the American SAT and GRE exams (I gained a perfect 800 in the maths SAT exam). I can also tutor olympiad-level maths. Finally, I am able to help out with most undergraduate level mathematics and statistics, some post-graduate topics and with the statistical side of many masters/hons research dissertations

Hobbies
I adjust my approach to individual students' needs, however in general I am a friendly, patient tutor whose aim is to build my students' confidence as well as ability in mathematics. With my younger students I typically try to make lessons as enjoyable as possible, while with my older students the main focus is on learning the material necessary to achieve well on external or university exams. My students tell me that I am good at explaining tricky concepts in ways they can understand, and I don't mind going over concepts several times until a student 'gets' it. In my free time I enjoy piano, chess, yoga, and taking my chihuahua for walks.
